Pictures of Tlaxco, Mexico

Tlaxco (pronounced tlas-ko) is a small town in the State of Tlaxcala north of Tlaxcala City. It is a lumber producing area obvious from the look of the harvested hills as you approach. There is reforestation but it appears a bit sparse. Tlaxcala being the smallest Mexican state it is a short bus trip here with a change of buses in the busy hub city of Apizaco.       (Pictures taken May 3, 2004)

The road in from Apizaco is lined with shops and restaurants and the bus stops at the zocalo that is especially clean and beautiful. Above center is the ayunamiento (city hall) on the north side of the zocalo flanked by pictures of the church (St. Augustin) that occupies the northeast corner.

The view of the bandstand and church from the west (looking east). From the zocalo looking back south down the road to Apizaco. The bank and hotel are in the second building on the left that houses a little shopping complex.
