| San Francisco Acatepec is a small town on the back (southerly) road between Puebla and Cholula known for its elaborately decorated church. Tonantzintla, Tlaxcalancingo, and Acatepec form a trio of towns along this way that seem to have competed in producing some of the finest dislays of decorative artistry in Mexico. Exteriors use local azulejos (talavera) tile and interiors employ intricate painting and gilding. (Pictures taken May 4, 2004) |

| It is about a kilometer east from Tonantzintla to Acatepec and the road is not heavily trafficed so I walked it. I hope the above three pictures relate a bit of the experience. | ||

| As you see the road runs you right into the church. | The church named Templo de San Francisco has a surrounding wall with an impressive gate. Note the flower petals on the steps. |
