Tetela del Volcan (locally just 'Tetela') is about the closest town to Popocatepetl. Most days like when I was there it is hidden in a cloud that naturally forms around it, but when clear it is majestic.
It is a short trip uphill from the semiarid agricultural plain of Ocuituco into the foggy hillside forest surrounding the volcano at Tetela. There the route descends southerly away from the volcano. (Pictures taken April 30, 2004) |
