Teotenango is an archeological site of the Matlazinca culture 25 km south of Toluca. A 12 peso ticket from the main Toluca bus station will take you to the local town of Tenango de Arista (or just Tenango). From the dropoff on the main highway it is about a mile through town west and then north to the site. It is a pleasant walk through a fairly nice town and then a bit of a country walk that I enjoyed after the traffic in Toluca. (Buy a bottle of water in town).
The terrain is flat all the way to the excellent museum where taxis drop off some, but the temples are uphill another 200-300 meters once again making you marvel at the native builders. There you have an excellent view of the countryside. |

The middle and right feature the monument to the (modern day) workers who unearthed and cleared this site near the hilltop entrance. | ||
