Pictures of Metepec, Mexico

Metepec is a city 7 km south but now contiguous with Toluca famous for its market and artisans that produce Arboles de la Vida (trees of life). These are painted sculptures of all sizes in the form of trees that depict among other things family and events of life.

From Toluca local buses saying "Metepec" will take you to the Cerro for 5 pesos.     (Pictures taken April 23, 2004)

THe church on Cerro de Calvario (Calvary Hill) with the mozaic of an arbol to the right. A closeup of the mozaic of the arbol de vida. A short distance away is the Capilla de Espirito Santo with its nice courtyard and the cerro beyond.

Two views from the Cerro. Left looking northwesterly - there are some artisan shops in this direction. Right looking north (towards Toluca) you can see the picturesque city hall of Metepec.
