Pictures of Taxco, Mexico

According to legend Taxco was founded right where a rich vein of silver was discovered by Don Jose de la Borda in 1743. After the mines played out Taxco remained a quiet town until an American, William Spratling, started a silver jewelry workshop in 1929. He eventually went bankrupt but the idea lives on in the silver craft and retail trade today.

Moreover Taxco is a prime tourist destination for its historic architecture and picturesque location. Although no longer on the main route from Acapulco, Taxco is served by many buses daily from Mexico City (Terminal Sur).      (Pictures taken April 22-24, 2004)
